CDYFC Adventure Center

The Progress

The YFC Sports Center's six basketball hoops are now in place, the court striping for both baskeball and volleyball is finished and the room is ready for business!  We are so thankful for all of the crews who worked hard to pull the gym flooring together in just a few weeks' time. Take a look for youself:

The Sports Center will have the ability to transform from a basketball court, to a soccer arena,to a volleyball court, to a concert venue all in a single weekend!

The YFC Adventure Center and The Edge Climbing Gym at 1544 Rte. 9 in Halfmoon, NY is well into its second year of operation! We are grateful to the Lord for the strength He gave all of us during the move.

The facility features The Edge Climbing Gym, a 12,000 square foot indoor rock climbing facility featuring over 40 rope climbs and a bouldering element second to none in the area.  The Edge has already hosted local and regional climbing competitions. This summer, The Edge-Halfmoon will run its first series of summer Climbing Camps. You can learn more about those by CLICKING HERE.

Point Break, our anti-bullying and suicide prevention workshops, will use the indoor sports and recreation center regularly, while the Shiloh’s Edge climbing team and wilderness trip groups will gather and train multiple nights each week at The Edge. The students of the future Campus Life Club of Shenendehowa High School will keep the place busy as well.

The Coffee House/Cafe' in the front of the Adventure Center will be equipped with wireless Internet, large screen TVs and plenty of comfy chairs and will have a dedicated group of “regulars” in no time! It may also serve as a music venue where students can perform.  At the same time, this new home of Capital District Youth for Christ also provides our staff with office and meeting space for daily operations and administrative needs.

Why it's needed

Kids need safe places.” In today’s world, that may be an understatement. Kids are looking, searching for someone, some place where they can not only be safe, but also be connected to someone who cares. According to a recent national survey, 45.4% of 8-to 12-year-olds report being bullied at least every few months. That is almost half of our children. Of those who say they are bullied, 12.5% say they are bullied everyday and 33.3% are bullied at least once a week. Can you imagine having to attend school knowing you will be bullied?

Teenagers are resorting to self-injury, drugs, alcohol and even suicide to try to deal with the pain in their lives. Having a place where kids can come to relax, have fun, learn and know they’re loved is vital. Providing a space where kids will meet Jesus through the life and words of YFC staff or volunteers is crucial. For Youth for Christ, one key place is our new ministry center.

While we still have much work to do to fully equip the gymnasium and cafe', we see God providing each day for the Adventure Center to become a haven for young people - that safe place they need to be themselves and to hear about Christ.

If you would like to visit the new building and perhaps speak with John Richmond or another staff person about how you might get involved in this new YFC endeavor, please call our office at 518-533-3617.
